Malayer city
Malayer is the second most important and strategic city in the province of Hamedan. Furthermore, It is among the largest cities in Iran after the provincial centers.
The city with a total area of 3210 square kilometers comprises 1605 percent of the total area of the province and also has 6 towns, 4 districts, 15 rural districts and 220 villages with a population of 300 thousand.
The city of Malayer is bounded north to the cities of Hamedan and Touyserkan, west to nahavand city, south to Borojerd city in lorestan province and east to shazand city in Markazi Province.
Malayer city in agricultural sector, especially Grape Gardening is one of the important areas of grape production in the country.
In the past, a significant number of people have been employed as gardeners in the form of villages in the city of Malayer.
In the following, there is a brief introduction to the importance of this product and the other products that come from it.

Grapes in Quran and Hadith:
The word grape is mentioned 11 times in the Holy Quran.
And grapes are named as the primary food in this world as well as the fruit of heaven.
The prophet Muhammad said, “Your best food is bread and your best fruit is grape. “
Imam Ali said, “Grapes are both edible and fruits, Both food and sweets.”
Grape cultivation is an ancient art in Malayer, and the large part of the land is dedicated to its production.
It seems that one of the major export products that have been exported to various European, American , Asian and other countries since the recent years, and in terms of high quality it has always been requested.
The relative advantage of Malayer in the production of grapes and especially seedless grapes, which mainly raisins, introduces this region as one of the well- known region in producing this product in the province, so that the products of grapes such as grape paste (Shire) and things are good reputation in the country. On the other hand, the history and reputation of malayer raisins production for export to different countries is such that, it can be considered one of the most prominent regions in Iran.
For this reason, the main occupation of the city’s population is the vineyard cultivation which is a significant contribution from the people’s basket of grape products and its derivatives proper climate, taste and interest of farmers in this area have led to the production and expansion of the cultivation of this product.

Product history:
Grapes are one of the most important fruits used since ancient times. There are two theories about grape history:
Some believe that grapes have been known even before the emergence of grains and they believed that the grapes were wild and abundant in the forest, and the early humans used their leaves and fruits and another group has a history of grapes of 6 to 7 thousand miles ahead. Some grape varieties cultivated in Iran are: kondori, shahroudi, white, red Yaghoti, Fakhri, Asgari, Mehdi khani, Bidane, Nohre, shani, Rish Baba, Keshmeshi, white, Red Roche, Amiri, Lal, Haj Abassi, Cheshm Gavi, Ghandehari, Maye mish, Gholami, Masht Arous, sahebi, Shabani, Yazdani, Maraghie, khalili Gohar, Lale Housseini, Domkhorosi, Razghi shirazi, Alvan shast Arousan, Nara, Madar Bache, Meske, Gazneimalaei, Matghali, varcheie, Abi, Alfi and etc.

Compounds and properties of Grapes:
The amount of material and elements in the fruit of the grapes is quite different according to the variety and the conditions of the planting site and the degree of grape processing.
Based on the FAO World Food and Drug Administration (FAO) tests, varieties of grapes and raisins are the most important Sugars available in fresh grapes such as sucrose, Glucose, Doctrase and Malic Acids, Citric acid and Tartaric acid.
In grape juice, besides water, sugar and various acids with a percentage of 3.5 to 4 percent are existed. There are also Potassium and mineral salts such as lime, manganese, sodium Iron and calcium. The amount of energy available in one hundred grams of fresh grapes is 67 kilo Calories and one hundred grams of raisin is 268 kilo calories the geography of product includes areas, provinces, towns and villages.
The total area under vineyard cultivation in the is about 7 million hectares, with Iran’s share of about 328, … hectares according to World Food Organization, the world’s grape production is around 68 million tons.
Major villages of the city that have the most vineyards are as follows: Jozan, Mozaran, Sardekoh, Almahdi, Sefidkoh, Avarzaman, Kamazan Olya, Kamazan Sofla and . . . covering 120 villages.
The amount of grape production in the last 5 years was around 240000 tons per year. The average amount of grape production is 24 tons which is different in type of use;

  1. About 74% of the total grape production has become 4,5000 tons of raisins, including: Sun- dried raisins, Paraffin- oil raisins (non- paraffin) sun- dried raisins, (with seed) dried raisins and Californian raisins.

  2. About 6 percent of grapes equivalent to 3.600 tons converted to dry – shade grapes( Saghe khoshk)

  3. About 8% of grapes equivalent to 4.800 tons converted to grape paste.

  4. About 1% of grapes equivalent to 2.400 tons converted to sour- grape juice.

  5. About 2% of grapes equivalent 4, 80 tons converted to vinegar, juice, concentrated- juice paste, Baslogh (a kind of pastry made by grape) and other products.

  6. About 10% of grapes equivalent 24.000 tons used for fresh- eaten grapes in the city market and other provinces in addition, the city of Malayer has 3% of the country’s cultivated grapes and 6.5% of grape products. In fact, 2 times the average production of the country and 3 times the global average.

Raisins:
With the explanation given about the grape in the city, the important factor in the cultivation and development of grape gardens has become a significant contribution to raisins and ultimately export them to several countries due to the late production of this valuable product, a group of economic activists in this city with significant investments and contraction of more than 50 processing unit and raisins packaging helps to strengthen and association of Manufacturers and exporters of Raisin Malayer:

Due to the importance of this product, the activists of this industry have been around for about 20 years with the aim of strengthening and developing city trade at the national and international levels, and cooperating, coordinating, communicating producers and exporters or raisins with each other, and the interaction and private sectors, and better communication between activists. The city’s raisin industry with government executives in the city, province and country, and based on the rules governing trade associations sought to form the organization.
And develop this valuable product.
The raisins of Malayer are ranked first in terms of its essential food ingredients and have been recognized as a global brand. In many targeted raisin markets, Malayer is known to best raisin on the market, and this is an asset to the product. Considering the importance of this product for the scientific and academic communities as well as the grapes and raisins in the country was established at Malayer University and began its activities in the field of development of this product nationally. Also, the establishment of a grape research station the formation of the only specialized association under the name of the association of producers and exporters of raisins Malayer which has been in operation since 1382 and is still on going. All these affairs and the concentration of processing units in the city have led to the export of raisins to different countries. It can make foreign currency for the country. On the other hand, according to official statistics, more than one million tons of raisins produced in the world and about one million tons are exported.
Depending on the annual yield of the product between 150 and 200 thousand tons of raisins from Iran to target markets which is the share of the Malayer city is from above 40 to 50 thousand.
